Daikin Refrigeration (Suzhou) Co., Ltd established to enhance production capacity and expand sales of marine container refrigeration units
Daikin Europe N.V. announces the establishment by parent company Daikin Industries Ltd. of a major refrigeration company in China, Daikin Refrigeration (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. The move fits with Daikin’s Fusion 10 goals to strengthen its refrigeration activities and be the major player in the sector by 2010.
Refrigeration: the fourth growth pillar
Daikin’s business consists of four pillars: heating systems, air conditioning, applied systems, and refrigeration. Daikin is the second largest supplier to the global container industry. The group’s Fusion 10 strategic plan calls for a strengthening of this position worldwide by 2010. To this end, Daikin established a new Refrigeration Division in 2006 to develop freezing and refrigeration into a leading business division. Daikin’s refrigeration business was further enhanced last year with the acquisition of J&E Hall. The results of recent efforts could already be seen with the roll-out in Europe of the Conveni-pack freezing and refrigeration system for convenient stores.
In a further move to develop this sector, a new company is being established in Suzhou, China, to manufacture refrigeration units for seagoing transport containers. Daikin currently sells container refrigeration units to major shipping and leasing companies throughout the world and it is the second largest supplier to the global container industry. Current demand for container refrigeration units is expected to increase in response to rising demand for refrigerated food transport to feed the world’s growing population.
Optimum refrigeration manufacturing and logistics
The Chinese plant will augment current production in Japan. The plant’s location in China puts it close to the container box manufacturers that are concentrated in this country, shortening lead times and allowing Daikin to rapidly respond to the expected rising demand to this growing sector.
Production is scheduled to start in October 2008, and work will be gradually shifted to the new Chinese plant from this date.
