Water-cooled VRV® Delivered to New 2010 FIFA World Cup™ stadiums
(15/09/2009)
Water-cooled VRV® Delivered to New 2010 FIFA World Cup™ stadiums. Air conditioning system widely recognized for energy savings by precision control of individual units.
Daikin Air Conditioning South Africa (Pty) Ltd., (investment ratio: Daikin Europe N.V. 85%, Daikin Industries, Ltd. 15%), a group company of Daikin Industries, Ltd., received orders for and has delivered a total of 170 water-cooled VRV® air conditioners (number of outdoor units) to Green Point Stadium (Cape Town), currently under construction, and the newly-constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth). Both stadiums will play host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa in June 2010.
The Green Point Stadium is the first intelligent stadium in South Africa and, as the name suggests, was built to be environmentally conscious. All electrical equipment such as facility lighting, air conditioners, and elevators are controlled from a central control room for maximum energy efficiency.
The conventional method for air conditioning stadiums has been to house large-sized air conditioners collectively in a machine room. However, because the stadium is a multi-purpose facility where the layout can change dramatically from event to event, a new type of system that could meticulously control the air conditioning of each area individually was sought from the viewpoint of energy conservation.
The water-cooled VRV® air conditioners that were delivered to the advanced, green-minded stadium currently enjoy a high reputation as equipment that can substantially save the amount of power consumption at stadiums and suppress it by individual control of units.
Daikin's energy-saving concept that was proposed to the Green Point Stadium is also being employed at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, another venue hosting the FIFA World Cup™, and an order was placed to the company for Daikin water-cooled VRV® air conditioners.
