Daikin has further developed its tried-and-tested Conveni-Pack cooling system specifically designed for food retail and petrol station applications in city centers and residential areas to create a new particularly environmentally friendly natural refrigerant CO2 version. The result is a very efficient all-in-one solution which combines food refrigeration, heat recovery, heat pump and air conditioning in one unit, to meet the commercial refrigeration requirements of the European food retail sector. With a GWP (Global Warming Potential) of 1, the natural refrigerant CO2 is particularly climate-friendly. Thus the CO2 Conveni-Pack supports food retailers to achieve their environmental goals while saving up to 50% of their annual energy costs.
Vienna, August 20, 2020 – The new F-gas regulation drives food retailers to increasingly switch their cooling solutions to use natural refrigerants, especially CO2. Daikin's product strategy has been putting the reliability and efficiency of its solutions above a particularly short time-to-market for years. “With the Daikin CO2 Conveni-Pack, we have made an important step forward to meet the need for commercial refrigeration, heating and air conditioning in one sustainable and energy efficient system”, says Junji Umamoto, Vice President and Director Refrigeration at Daikin Europe. "By using the latest controls and inverter technology, we achieve energy savings of up to 50% compared to conventional systems."
The Daikin CO2 Conveni-Pack achieves a heat recovery of up to 100% from the refrigeration cabinets and uses it for the seasonal heating of the sales area and functional rooms - partially without additional energy supply.
State of the art Daikin CO2 swing compressor technology
Contrary to most other manufacturers of CO2 solutions, Daikin has developed its own CO2 swing compressor in order to ensure the reliable operation Daikin is known for over the entire system life-cycle.
The new swing compressor specially designed for CO2 refrigerant with two-stage compression and an efficiency of 69,5% uses the most performing hermetic compression currently available.
It ensures 5 to 15% higher efficiency of the Conveni-Pack under nominal operating conditions also thanks to reduced wear. The life expectancy of the new compressor is significantly longer due to a low discharge temperature (maximum 100°C) and more precise control of the oil temperature.
Compared with a conventional system, the new Conveni-Pack saves energy through the use of BLDC inverter motors, effective pressure control, two-stage compression and minimal defrosting losses. Seasonal heat recovery leads to further energy savings. All of this allows for a very efficient system operation and longer life expectancy as the compressors mostly run under partial load.
Optimized for use in residential areas and city centers
The new CO2 Conveni-Pack is available in 2 variants. The smaller Conveni-Pack AC10 for smaller to-go supermarkets or petrol stations with a refrigeration capacity of 14,5 kW and heating capacity of 22 kW and the Conveni-Pack AC15 with a refrigeration capacity of 21 kW and heating capacity of 22 kW for medium sized food retail stores.
The operating range lies at -20°C to +43°C outdoor temperatures. The compact build of both models allows for a flexible and space-saving installation. The outdoor unit can be placed up to 35 metres above, 10 metres below or at ground level and up to 130 metres away from the indoor units. The CO2 Conveni-Pack scores further points with its low-noise operation (important in residential areas at night when residents may want to sleep with open windows) and the possibility of indoor installation. This is very interesting in high density urban areas with limited space and high rental cost. Thanks to the combination of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating functions in one system, the Conveni-Pack requires 40% less floor space than a conventional HVAC-R system.
Easy installation and commissioning
The modular design of the Conveni-Pack allows the flexible installation in small and medium sized food retail stores and can meet any project requirement. Every CO2 Conveni-Pack is fully tested and pre-configured at the factory. This plug & play technology enables a fast on-site commissioning. All mechanical and electrical components are easily accessible which makes installation and maintenance simple.
The CO2 Conveni-Pack meets the needs of supermarkets perfectly, thanks to broader performance regulation. By choosing the Conveni-Pack, food retailers can achieve their environmental goals while saving energy costs.
