New lower GWP refrigerant options are now available for Daikin’s J Series compact water-cooled chillers.
Vienna, October 15, 2020 – The new Daikin J Series (EWWS/H-J-) was recently added to the Daikin Applied Europe product portfolio. With this renovated range, Daikin offers new solutions for the water-cooled chiller segment, adding new low GWP options for the water-cooled compact line, J Series, already available with R-134a.
This new line offers very compact and reliable solutions with low environmental impact refrigerants such as R-1234ze and R-513A, making it flexible and suitable for a wide variety of applications. High temperature heating applications both in stand-alone arrangement and in cascade system with an air to water heat pump are possible, thanks to the extended envelope of the R-1234ze refrigerant.
The J Series
The new EWWS-J- and the EWWH-J-, with R-513A and R-1234ze refrigerants respectively, are water-cooled heat pump units reversible on the water side. Similarly to the entire J family, the new series is compact, efficient, reliable and able to meet the heating and hot water needs of a wide variety of building types thanks to the possibility of providing up to 75°C condenser leaving water temperature.
In addition, the water-cooled condenser-less EWLS-J- and EWLH-J units are also now available, featuring R-513A and R-1234ze refrigerants. These units share the same traits as the entire J family, specifically in regards to their high efficiency both at full and part load conditions, plus the compact design for easy indoor installation or retrofit operations.
Unit characteristics
The new J series features Daikin’s improved in-house developed single screw compressor, optimised to work with lower GWP refrigerants. Reliability is one of the important characteristics of these products, linked to the long-established technology used in units featuring R-134a and the single screw compressor.
Thanks to the units’ compactness, they represent a relevant option for applications in small and narrow technical rooms.
The units are equipped with Microtech4, a new controller with a superior control logic and user-friendly interface, offering many new functionalities including the integration of Daikin’s iCM (Intelligent Chiller Manager) directly in the unit’s controller. iCM is able to manage and optimise the performance of a group of chillers, increasing durability and efficiency while reducing operating and maintenance costs.
The J Series integrates Daikin on Site, an innovative remote monitoring tool for chiller plants, that provides information with a unique level of detail, whilst also tracking unit and component behaviour and monitoring their correct functionality. Daikin On Site provides real time data 24/7, allowing the creation of periodical reports for an in-depth analysis of the plant performance.
Refrigerant characteristics
The choice of R-513A or R1234ze refrigerants, in addition to R-134a, is one of the most important new features of this series.
The R-1234ze refrigerant provides customers with a very low GWP (7) alternative for projects where the environmental impact is a key factor and also allows them to utilise financial incentives which promote the use of more sustainable and energy efficient Air Conditioning equipment.
R-513A, other than being an environmentally friendly refrigerant with a relatively low GWP (572), is an A1 classified refrigerant, meaning it is non-flammable and compliant with any safety standard.
