Decarbonize heating

DecarbCities 2022 in Vienna: Daikin Europe is platinum sponsor

Press Release, May 2022

Daikin Europe, a global HVAC leader, will be present during the DecarbCities conference (11-12th May) in Vienna as a platinum sponsor. DecarbCities wants to further ignite the debate on energy and climate plans as well as renovation strategies for the building stock. Renewable technologies can help phase out fossil fuels from the existing building stock. Daikin already sees the heat pump demand growing at an accelerating pace.

Vienna, May 2022 – Today, the European building stock is responsible for approximately 36% of all CO2 emissions in the Union. By 2030 the EU aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of buildings by 55% (compared to 1990). Cities will play an important role in decarbonizing Europe, and Daikin is committed to help them do so. “We are looking forward to participating in DecarbCities, since we are taking the lead in the transition,” says Patrick Crombez, General Manager Heating & Renewables. Daikin Europe will also moderate a panel discussion during the event.

The  main focus of the DecarbCities conference (11-12th May in Vienna) will be to explain how cities can phase out fossil fuels from the existing building stock by using heating systems running on renewable energies, such as heat pumps. Renewable technologies for renovation processes will also be a part of the discussion, as well as the link to the European legislation on energy efficiency, renewable energy and building efficiency.

European heat pump demand accelerates rapidly

The European heat pump demand is continuously accelerating, with more and more heat pumps being installed every year. From 2011 to 2020, the annual heat pump growth rate was 10% CAGR. In the next decade (2021-2030) Daikin Europe estimates that the annual growth rate will be 20% CAGR. This will lead to installations of heat pumps rising to over 4 million heat pumps per year by 2030, up from 1 million last year. At this point, already 1 out of 3 heating systems installed will be a heat pump, up from 1 out of 10 in 2020.

Patrick Crombez: “The European heat pump market is growing exponentially. This only shows that Europe is ready to be decarbonized. The coming years will be pivotal in the decarbonization process of residential and commercial buildings. The transition to more renewable energy, as mandated by European legislation, will contribute to a more stable and greener climate. Daikin Europe is taking the lead in the transition and is determined to expand in order to meet market demand.”
