Brunn am Gebirge, April 2014_DAIKIN - global no. 1 in climate control and leader in HVAC-R systems - is celebrating 90 successful years of smart heating and cooling solutions in 2014. „Since 1924 DAIKIN makes people happy!” is the slogan which introduces this very special anniversary now.
In 1924, Mr. Akira Yamada established DAIKIN by setting up the „Osaka Kinzoku Kogyosho Limited Partnership“, a metal fabricator that produced aircraft radiator tubes. The company soon began to specialize in industrial air conditioning systems and since then, DAIKIN has grown to become the world’s number one manufacturer of air conditioning systems.
At the heart of the company’s success is its singular focus on developing energy-efficient heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions for residential, commercial and industrial applications. This specialisation, combined with a commitment to environmental responsibility, makes DAIKIN unique. Innovation, sustainability and energy efficiency take top priority, demonstrated by development of products and systems that with each generation, consume less energy and release less carbon into the atmosphere.
DAIKIN has been at the forefront of technical innovation since it began manufacturing cooling systems and refrigerators in the 1930s. It has launched a number of industry ‘firsts’, including the first heat pump air conditioner in 1958 and the first VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) system in 1982, which was able to supply conditioned air from multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit.
In 1999, the company launched Ururu Sarara, the world’s first split air conditioner capable of controlling room humidity without an external water source. The system was upgraded in 2013 to become the first residential air conditioner to use the next generation R32 refrigerant, helping to lower its environmental impact. In 2006, DAIKIN introduced the DAIKIN Altherma range of air-to-water heat pumps for domestic heating and hot water, which was extended with a hybrid and a ground source heat pump in 2014.
DAIKIN continues to innovate, with the launch earlier this year of the VRV IV heat recovery system. This complete building solution is up to 28% more efficient than the previous generation of VRV, is more flexible and can be installed faster than any other heat recovery system.
For DAIKIN in Europe, the European Development Centre (EDC) is pivotal in developing innovative, energy-efficient solutions, designed and manufactured in Europe, to suit the European market. The first unit developed specifically for Europe was the DAIKIN Emura residential air conditioner, launched in 2010. The EDC has continued to develop innovative, energy-efficient solutions, with the launch of the Fully Flat cassette in 2013 (first indoor unit designed to fit European ceiling tiles) and the recently launched second generation of DAIKIN Emura.
All DAIKIN products are backed with its renowned quality and reliability and 90 years´ experience of serving customers around the world.
DAIKIN has a truly global presence, with sales operations in more than 130 countries and about 60 manufacturing facilities all around the world. The company’s portfolio has grown in recent years, through strategic acquisitions, including OYL Industries, parent company of McQuay International, AAF International and J&E Hall, in 2006; German heating manufacturer Rotex in 2008; as well as Turkish heating and air conditioning manufacturer Airfel and U.S. air conditioner company Goodman in 2011.
DAIKIN’s success over the past 90 years is a result of listening to our customers and delivering solutions that meet their changing needs. Whatever the future holds, DAIKIN will continue to develop energy-efficient solutions to improve comfort, reduce costs and lower environmental impact. Here’s to another 90 successful years!
