Daikin Europe NV is donating €50,000 – enough to plant 100,000 trees – despite missing its target of 100,000 likes for its Facebook page on Earth Day 2014.
Daikin Europe had promised to donate enough money to plant one tree for every like it received on its Facebook page, if it reached 100,000 likes on 22 April 2014, in support of Earth Day’s Green Cities campaign. In the event, a total of 35,037 likes were received on the Facebook pages of Daikin Europe, Daikin Belux, Daikin Russia and Daikin Italy.
While it missed its target, the heat pump manufacturer has pledged to donate the full amount to WeForest, an international non-profit association that plants bio-diverse forests in the poorest countries around the world, as part of its commitment to environmental protection.
All of Daikin Europe’s policies, practices and processes are developed and implemented with environmental sustainability at their heart. This includes developing the most efficient and safest cooling and heating solutions, such as the new Daikin Altherma hybrid heat pump for homes.
The Green Cities campaign aims to help cities around the world to become more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint. There are three key areas: buildings, energy, and transportation, all focusing on improvements in efficiency, investments in renewable technology and regulation reform.
