Come and see Daikin's next generation heat pumps at ISH 2023

Press release, January 2023

Daikin Europe N.V invites to discover its next generation air-to-water heat pumps at ISH 2023, the world’s leading trade fair for HVAC + Water. The market-leading Daikin Altherma 3 series has changed the standard for heat pumps. The new Daikin Altherma 4 series will build further on this and its launch is planned from 2024 onwards. Moreover, Daikin will also introduce its new European-wide support and guidance programme for installers, aimed at continuing to provide adequate and qualitative training so that installed units run smoothly throughout the lifespan of the product.

Brussels, January 2023 – “With the new series we are once again changing the market standard significantly, especially by fully focusing on decarbonising heat. These new developments ensure that both installers and end users enjoy peace of mind and feel good in their work and in their homes. Our heat pumps provide real ‘Feel Good Technology’, which is our theme at ISH 2023,” says Patrick Crombez, General Manager Heating and Renewables at Daikin Europe. Daikin Europe will unveil its next generation air-to-water heat pumps, the Daikin Altherma 4, at ISH 2023. In recent months, Daikin Europe has been steadily investing in both product development and manufacturing sites all over Europe. Last year, the company announced it would build an entirely new heat pump factory in Poland, which is expected to be operational by mid-2024. The first tangible results of these investments will be visible at ISH 2023, with the presentation of the new Daikin Altherma 4 heat pump series.

Daikin Altherma 4 generation to be revealed at ISH 2023

The innovative range builds further on the Daikin Altherma 3 range, which has revolutionised the heat pump market. The new generation air-to-water heat pumps will lead the way for the European industry that is focussing on decarbonizing heat in an efficient, safe, and comfortable way and will be launched from 2024 onwards.

The new range will contain tailor-made components that enhance performance, add application flexibility while also safeguarding each stage of product lifecycle. It is smart solution for every home thanks to its new touch screen controller, remote monitoring and remote troubleshooting. It’s compatible with third party Home Automation Systems and Home Energy Management systems. The new tailor-made components, together with a thorough training programme, offer installers and other stakeholder efficiency, safety and peace of mind throughout the product lifecycle: transporting, storing, installing, servicing and disposing the product, giving them the opportunity to experience Feel Good Technology, as they do with any of Daikin’s products.

Best choice of refrigerants for various applications

Daikin will continue to offer a wide portfolio using R32 refrigerant. In addition, based on the upcoming high demand for heat pumps in the light of REPowerEU in combination with the phasing down of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in Europe, Daikin will provide a new range of air-to-water heat pumps with refrigerant R454C. This refrigerant with lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 148 offers a wide range of installation possibilities, making it suitable for the different types of housing structures throughout Europe.

Moreover, where the complete refrigerant circuit is installed outside, and where feasible from safety aspects, certain product ranges will be provided with R290 with a Global Warming Potential of 3. Just as Daikin did for other refrigerants, and will also do for units with R290, it will take specific safety measures considering the total life cycle of the equipment.

As always, Daikin is committed to using the refrigerant that best fits the application and customer need, weighing safety, cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency and environmental impact to arrive at the best-balanced refrigerant choice.

Changing the market standard

“All the reasons explained here reflect the painstaking research that has gone into developing the newest heat pump technology.  We invite all installers and stakeholders to come and see our Daikin Altherma 4 family at ISH 23.  We have revolutionised the heat pump market with the excellent outdoor unit design and high-temperature hot water output of the current Daikin Altherma 3 series. With the new series, we are once again changing the market standard significantly, thereby making sure we have considered the entire product life cycle, from manufacturing unit to its end of life. In doing so, we at Daikin put safety first, resulting in not only specific design features of the units, but also ensuring complete information is provided to, and adequate training is followed by all stakeholders concerned, whether installer, wholesaler, property developer or consultant. We strive to maximize end user comfort while securing a safe environment for all. We also continue to work with other heat pump providers to secure industry-wide safety standards are set and implemented,” says Crombez.

Daikin leads the way in installer network development

Alongside the introduction of its new generation air-to-water heat pumps, Daikin is also setting the bar high by introducing a European-wide support and guidance programme that focusses on installer’s professionalism, quality, and safety. The new network builds on Daikin’s tradition of a strong and European-wide network of highly professional installers and technicians. It will be open for new installers to join as well.

The programme will allow the installer community to fully manage the different (residential) heat pump technologies, also including the upcoming Daikin Altherma 4 series. It takes selection of application, skill development and installation experience into account. The programme strives to provide adequate and good quality training so that installed units run smoothly and in a safe way throughout the lifespan of the unit. The implementation of the programme supports our intent to continuously raise the safety levels of the industry as a whole. This generates peace of mind for both the installer and the end user, boosting user satisfaction.

Furthermore, Crombez states: “Thanks to our European-wide network of highly professional installers and our innovative heat pump technologies, we guarantee our end users quality and peace of mind. We consider the new programme to be a label of trust: installers enjoy full training, support and guidance on the ins and outs of our portfolio, thus providing customers with high quality installation, commissioning and after sales care.  A true feel-good experience, which end users will benefit from when using our Feel Good Technology in their homes. We invite all installers to join the programme and create synergy between own experience and Daikin's know how.”

  • Air conditioners are heat pumps. How air conditioning systems can play a key role in lowering gas consumption this winter

Amidst uncertainty over supply and pricing of natural gas, European member states are looking for ways to reduce their gas demand by 15% in the upcoming winter. Part of the solution lies in alternative sources of heating, such as using air conditioning systems already in place today. In fact an air conditioning system is an air-to-air heat pump, capable of heating buildings in a very efficient and effective way. In the case of a 600m² building, using the air conditioning system as an air-to-air heat pump to heat can help save up to 112.880 kWh of natural gas and reduce heating costs by 25%. #pr2226
