Daikin for life supports Frauenhäuser Wien, Europahaus des Kindes and Verein M.U.T.

Press release, January 2023

Inequality in Austria is on the rise. The reasons are multi-fold: geopolitical uncertainties, the Corona pandemic, sky-high energy prices, rising cost of living due to inflation, and ever-increasing poverty. Within the Daikin for life initiative, Daikin Central Europe and Daikin Austria have selected three Austrian social institutions to support their important work for the most vulnerable people in society: women who are victims of violence, children in need of a safe home, and citizens highly affected by poverty.

Vienna, January, 2023 – “As Daikin’s headquarters for the region of 16 markets in Central and South-eastern Europe comprising diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, our Daikin for life initiative is an umbrella for all activities that aim to support local communities. In 2023, together with our Austrian sales organization, we will donate a total of 14,000 euros to three important social organizations: Frauenhäuser Wien, Europahaus des Kindes and Verein M.U.T. Thereby, we want to make a small contribution to their work to reduce poverty and increase equality in Austria, and to protect and empower women, children and other citizens who can no longer pay their bills,” says Carl Lievens, Managing Director Daikin Central Europe.

“It’s part of our Daikin corporate culture that employees participate in decision-making. Therefore, we have approached 150 team members to vote for one of the above-mentioned organizations and allocate the individual amounts. Hence we support Europahaus des Kindes with 5,700 euros, Frauenhäuser Wien with 5,500 euros, and Verein M.U.T. with 2,800 euros,” says Claus Albel, General Manager Sales Daikin Austria.

A solid foundation for a better life

At Europahaus des Kindes in Vienna’s 16th district Ottakring, children who can no longer live with their parents find a safe place to grow up. The small organization is particularly dependent on private donations. “Children are the future of our society, and we want to support the organization that does so much to build a solid foundation for their lives,” so Albel.

“Women make up 51% of our society and 36.8% of Daikin’s staff in Austria. With our donation to Frauenhäuser Wien we want to take a stand against violence,” Lievens points out. Frauenhäuser Wien protect women and their children from psychological and physical violence. In Austria, one in five women from the age of 15 has experienced physical and/or sexual violence.(1)

The third organization supported by Daikin Central Europe is the Verein M.U.T. The association has made it its mission to help homeless people and families in need quickly and unbureaucratically in everyday life as well as in emergency situations. The donation will be dedicated to their food bank at Naschmarkt Vienna where people can get groceries for free.

With that donation, Daikin Airconditioning Central Europe contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals 1 “No Poverty” and 5 “Gender Equality”.
