New Daikin Altherma 3 R MT heat pump makes heating system renovations a breeze

Press release, August 2023

High energy costs and increased environmental concerns are leading many people to consider moving away from traditional heating systems, such as gas or oil boilers. For those who are planning a home renovation or are looking to upgrade or replace an existing boiler without needing to change the existing radiators, the newest heat pump from Daikin, the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT, offers a significant solution. The product launch underscores Daikin's commitment to contribute to decarbonizing heat, not only in new built but also in existing homes.

Vienna, September 2023 – Two thirds of the 43,6 million dwellings in single- and multi-family houses in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries are older than 30 years (built before 1989, according to EU Building Stock Observatory) and are to a great extent inefficient.1)  A renovation can be the ideal time to replace an outdated heating and hot water system in residential homes. The Daikin Altherma 3 R MT, the latest addition to the Daikin heat pump portfolio, fits right in here: This medium temperature refrigerant split heat pump can be used alongside existing radiators, underfloor heating, a compatible hot water tank, or even combined with solar panels. Just like the entire range, the new Daikin Altherma 3 R MT offers a superior level of comfort combined with energy efficiency and an attractive design.

Flexible options

This latest heat pump addition consists of an outdoor unit that can be combined with one of three different indoor units:

  • The floor standing unit has an integrated water tank making it the ideal option for updating an existing boiler to provide a single solution for managing all domestic hot water, heating and cooling requirements. This unit also has the option of a Bizone function for controlling the temperature in two different areas of people’s home.
  • The wall-mounted unit is a more compact unit which can be combined with either an existing compatible water tank or a new separate compatible one.
  • If homeowners have installed or plan to install solar panels or thermal collectors, the ECH2O unit has a water tank that connects to them, maximizing energy efficiency for a long-term home heating, cooling and hot water system.

All Daikin Altherma 3 R MT units have an efficiency rating of up to A+++ for space heating and the floor standing and ECH2O units have an A+ rating for domestic hot water. These highly efficient heat pumps have a leaving water temperature of 65°C, at ambient temperatures as low as -15°C, which is sufficient to work with existing high temperature radiators and for most domestic hot water requirements. Even when outdoor temperatures drop to as low as -25°C, these heat pumps are guaranteed to be operational, making them ideal for residential buildings in areas with exceptionally harsh winters.

Ideal for homes of any size

Space can often be a limitation when looking to upgrade any appliance at homes. This is not an issue with the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT which only needs a small area for both the indoor and outdoor units. The slim outdoor unit will fit equally well on an apartment balcony or in garden, whilst each of the indoor units is stylish to fit seamlessly into any room. The floor standing and ECH2O units both have a small footprint, only requiring a minimal area of floor space. Where space is more limited, the wall-mounted Altherma 3 R MT unit can be a good option.

Comfortable and smart

Additionally, the low sound power of all three indoor units means that occupants will experience no disruption whichever one they choose and wherever it is located in their home. As connectivity of appliances supports occupants’ comfort, the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT delivers with a variety of smart options for controlling the system.

Whether as part of an entire renovation, or to replace an outdated boiler, the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT refrigerant split heat pump option for upgrading home heating, cooling and hot water provision.
