New features of Daikin's R-32 Small Inverter series enable reduced CO2 emissions when heating residential buildings

Press Release, September 2023

Originally launched in 2021, the R-32 Small Inverter range has undergone upgrades, introducing new features to enhance its suitability for heating applications. The newly added options improve the unit's control capabilities. The R-32 Small Inverter heat pumps can be connected to operate in customized heating solutions, and run in combination with products like Daikin Altherma indoor heat pumps, or traditional boilers and electric heaters, for example.

Vienna, September 2023 – The various configuration options of the R-32 Small Inverter range allow to design systems that provide comfort heating and domestic hot water with greater energy efficiency and lower CO2 emissions – just how you like it: The new heat pump series EWYT-CZ is available from stock for fast delivery. It is part of Daikin’s Bluevolution family of products and stands out for a capacity range from 16 to 90 kW, compactness and wide operating envelope. Providing the best energy efficiency levels in the market both in cooling and heating mode makes each unit from the series an excellent future-proof choice.

More future-proof  features

The smart control solutions for the R-32 Small Inverter series were already designed to achieve optimal performance and system flexibility from the beginning. However, the latest update takes the series to a completely new level. Daikin’s Small Inverter heat pumps are now able to offer new functionalities, allowing units to be installed in different configurations:

Bivalent operation

This configuration holds particular significance in enhancing heating system efficiency. The R-32 Small Inverter heat pump can now establish connections and communicate with one or multiple boilers, arranged in a series with the heat pump, decoupled through the use of a heat exchanger or hydraulic separator. It optimizes the heat pump’s operations while minimizing the use of gas from the boilers, leading to increased system efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.

Water loop Cascade configuration

This is a very relevant configuration for condominiums as it enables to pair Small Inverter heat pumps with Daikin Altherma high temperature indoor heat pump units. The water provided at a constant temperature from the Small Inverter heat pumps can be distributed to indoor units located in different housing units, which can act as heating boosters. This configuration allows condominiums to benefit from the most efficient Daikin heating technology integrated in one system to meet all requirements for cooling, heating, and domestic hot water.

Advanced domestic hot water control

In “domestic hot water” (DHW) mode, the R-32 Small Inverter heat pump is able to control an external heater. This configuration allows to set the heat pump as primary hot water heater, leaving to the external heater the provision of eventual adjustments. In this configuration, it is also possible to install the water tank at a maximum distance of 50 meters from the Small Inverter heat pump.

With these new functionalities, Daikin’s R-32 Small Inverter heat pump offers the ideal solution, whether customers aim to equip a new building with a contemporary, energy efficient heating system or seek to renovate their existing heating system, enhancing its efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Daikin leads the R-32 technology

The introduction of the new Small Inverter Chiller further solidifies Daikin's position as a leader in the design and development of products utilizing R-32 refrigerant. In 2018, Daikin made pioneering strides in this field, making history with the launch of the first R-32 refrigerant chillers. This innovation was followed by the introduction of free-cooling scroll units in the same year and the R-32 Heat Pump in 2020.
