Daikin unveils new VRV 5 floor standing unit to enhance low carbon solutions for commercial buildings

Press release, May 2025

Vienna, May 2025 – Daikin launches the latest addition to its VRV 5 Heat Pump range, the new concealed floor standing unit, further enhancing the company’s extensive R-32 portfolio. This innovation is designed to provide a versatile and comfortable heating and cooling solution for decarbonizing commercial buildings.

Enhanced versatility for smaller spaces

The new floor standing unit incorporates Daikin’s advanced Shîrudo technology, ensuring full compliance with the IEC60335-2-40 standard and providing installers and consultants peace of mind. A key enhancement to the floor standing models is the integral airflow circulation principle, which delivers an installation versatility comparable to wall-mounted and cassette units. Consequently, it can easily be installed in small room applications. With this solution, Daikin is the first to address the traditional room size limitations of floor standing models that use R-32 refrigerant.

What is Shîrudo Technology?

With Shîrudo Technology Daikin tackles the IEC requirements concerning the mild flammability of R-32. According to the company there is no need for time consuming studies or additional installation and commissioning work. Buildings can be designed stress free and projects can be validated in the Xpress software.

Shîrudo Technology ensures compliance to IEC60335-2-40 by integrating a leak detection sensor in every unit, a visual and audible alarm in the Madoka controller and shut-off values in the outdoor unit or SV box. For more information, visit ‘Shîrudo technology’

Compact Design with High ESP

Optimized for the R-32 refrigerant, the new unit boasts a high external static pressure (ESP) of up to 55 Pa, allowing discreet integration with only the suction and discharge grilles visible. The unit's compact design, with a depth of only 200mm and a low height of 620mm, fits perfectly beneath windows, maximizing usable space. Depending on the use, the unit can be mounted to the wall or positioned with the delivered installation feet.

Comprehensive R-32 VRV 5 range

Joining Daikin’s full VRV 5 R-32 outdoor unit range, the new floor standing unit further extends Daikin’s VRV 5 R-32 line-ups, which is celebrated for its simplicity and flexibility in design and installation. The extensive range includes capacities from 12.1 kW in cooling to 87.5 kW in heating, catering to a wide array of commercial applications including offices, hotels, and retail spaces.

VRV 5 – Daikin’s commitment to low carbon solutions for commercial buildings

Daikin’s VRV 5 system was introduced as part of the company’s commitment to achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. It is designed to provide safe, healthy, and comfortable spaces throughout the building life cycle with world-leading technology.

The VRV 5 with R-32 refrigerant is Daikin’s most comprehensive low carbon solution for commercial buildings, compliant with the EU F-gas regulation phase-down path. Customers can benefit from expert advice and full transparency of the total lifecycle impact through EPD certificates, helping to achieve maximum BREEAM, LEED, or WELL accreditations. With this addition, the VRV 5 range offers unparalleled versatility, efficiency, and environmental benefits.
