Daikin expands R-32 VRV portfolio with new VKM-JM fresh air solution

Press release, 10 June 2026

Product news / Vienna, 10 June 2026 – Daikin is expanding its R-32 VRV portfolio with the launch of VKM-JM, a decentralized fresh air solution for commercial buildings. Designed to improve indoor air quality and simplify system design, VKM-JM combines heat recovery, humidity control, pre-cooling, heating, and filtration in one compact unit.

With airflow capacities from 500 to 1,000 m3/h, it supports efficient fresh air treatment and seamless integration with Daikin VRV systems. Designed for commercial buildings including offices, retail and hospitality, the Daikin VKM-JM ensures year-round fresh air treatment while reducing the load on connected heat pump or air-conditioning systems.

How Daikin VKM-JM improves indoor air quality and system efficiency

At the core of Daikin VKM-JM fresh air solution is an integrated DX coil and humidifier that treats  incoming outdoor air to maintain stable supply-air temperature and humidity levels in commercial buildings, regardless of outdoor conditions. This helps improve indoor air quality year-round by preventing excessive dryness in winter and controlling humidity peaks in warmer periods. Together, these features position the Daikin VKM-JM as a complete fresh-air conditioning solution, ensuring consistent comfort throughout the year.

The unit also features a paper heat exchanger that recovers both thermal energy and moisture from extracted indoor air. By transferring this recovered energy to the incoming fresh air stream, the system significantly reduces the heating and cooling demand on connected HVAC equipment. Compared with the previous generation, the Daikin VKM-JM achieves up to 10% higher enthalpic (total heat content) efficiency, and recovers up to 74% of the total heat content (for VKM50, high fan speed, heating mode), while improved airtightness helps minimize thermal leakage.

To optimize indoor air quality and energy efficiency in commercial buildings, an optional CO₂ sensor can be built in to adjust airflow based on actual CO₂ levels, preventing over-ventilation while maintaining healthy indoor environments. A night-time free cooling function further improves energy performance by using bypass operation to remove accumulated heat when the air-conditioning system is off, reducing the cooling load at the start of the next day.

Daikin VKM-JM simplifies installation and ensures stable airflow in commercial buildings

Beyond performance, Daikin VKM-JM fresh air solution is engineered to simplify installation and ensure reliable HVAC operation with complex real-world conditions.

In commercial buildings, ductwork often differs from the original HVAC design due to space constraints or on-site adaptations. If not addressed properly, these deviations can lead to incorrect airflow settings, reduced ventilation performance or increased noise levels.

To address one of the most common HVAC installation challenges, Daikin introduces an “automatic airflow adjustment function” that automatically selects the optimal fan curve to achieve the target airflow, even when actual duct conditions differ from the original design. This helps reduce commissioning time, improve ventilation performance and ensures stable air distribution throughout the system’s lifetime.

“Commercial buildings today require HVAC solutions that combine energy-efficiency, indoor air quality and easy installation. With Daikin VKM-JM, we bring together advanced fresh air treatment, intelligent control and seamless system VRV integration in one solution, helping customers simplify system design while improving performance and year-round comfort.” George Dimou, Daikin Europe Section Manager Commercial DX Products

Seamless VRV integration for commercial buildings

Beyond installation, the Daikin VKM-JM fresh air solution is designed for seamless integration with VRV systems, supporting a total solution approach for commercial buildings. By combining advanced fresh-air treatment with direct VRV system connection, VKM-JM contributes to a fully integrated HVAC solution that simplifies system design and ensures consistent performance across all components.

VRV 5,Daikin’s commitment to support low-carbon HVAC in commercial buildings

The new Daikin VKM-JM integrates seamlessly with Daikin’s VRV IV and VRV 5 systems, further extending the company’s VRV 5 R-32 line-up, recognized for its simplicity and flexibility in design and installation.

The VRV 5 system was introduced as part of Daikin’s commitment to achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050. It is designed to provide safe, healthy, and comfortable spaces throughout the building life cycle. The VRV 5 with R-32 refrigerant is Daikin’s most comprehensive low-carbon solution for commercial buildings, compliant with the EU F-gas regulation phase-down path. Customers can benefit from expert advice and full transparency of the total lifecycle impact through EPD certificates, helping to achieve maximum BREEAM, LEED, or WELL accreditations. With this addition, the VRV 5 range offers unparalleled versatility, efficiency, and environmental benefits.
