Daikin Austria wins Heat Pump Award 2023 in the People's Choice category

Press release, October 2023

In 2023, for the 13th time, the prestigious European Heat Pump Award recognizes the most efficient, smart, and sustainable heat pump projects across Europe. Daikin’s outstanding industrial heat pump solution for Austrian AHT factory

AHT Cooling Systems is the leading provider of plug-in, environmentally friendly deep-freeze systems and a perfect partner for food retailers and food manufacturers. For their factory in Rottenmann, Daikin Austria realized an industrial heat pump project to replace gas boiler heating and support AHT’s ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of their facilities. The solutions consists of a heat pump cascade with a totally installed heating capacity of 1,200 kW for heating of the production facility, the office building and for domestic hot water supply. Additionally, a further extension of a heat pump installation of 500 kW is planned to be added in the future.

“Being a provider of environmentally friendly cooling and freezing equipment, it was highly important for us to find a sustainable, flexible, energy saving and absolutely reliable solution to cover our year-round heating demands. The comprehensive Daikin industrial heat pump portfolio met all our requirements and is in addition fully compatible with our existing photovoltaic system as an energy source.” says Martin Krutz, Managing Director of AHT Cooling Systems.

“After taking all customer’s requirements into consideration, we designed a solution consisting of four air-cooled Daikin heat pumps (EWYT350BXRA2, refrigerant R32) as energy source for two water to water heat pumps (EWWH525VZXSA1, refrigerant R1234ze) to ensure year-round heating of AHT facilities and deliver a hot water production of up to +73°C.

An energy loop with temperature levels of around 15°C to 20°C ensures maximum efficiency of the heating system”, says Klemens Kaltenbacher, Sales Manager Strategic Key Accounts Daikin Austria. The project scope included the delivery and assembling of all Daikin heat pumps, supervision during the installation, commissioning, testing and functional checks and a contract for maintenance.

"We consistently prioritize our customers' needs when seeking future-proof solutions for HVAC-R projects. I am exceptionally proud that Daikin Austria and AHT Rottenmann have been acknowledged for their dedication to decarbonizing the industry through this year's People's Choice category of the Heat Pump Award. This recognition underscores that our solutions resonate not only with the award's jury but also with a wider audience," said Carl Lievens, Managing Director of Daikin Central Europe.

About

European Heat Pump Award

The Heat Pump Award (HPA) was founded by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) to recognise the most outstanding heat pump projects on local, residential, and industrial levels.

The HPA was launched in 2011 under the name of Heat Pump City of the Year (HPCY) Award to highlight cities and regions that have put in place an energy efficient project which takes advantage of Heat Pump technology. The international appeal of the award has grown year after year and now attracts participants from all over Europe and beyond. All submitted projects collect different visions on how heat pumps are a valuable source in the decarbonization path in Europe.
