Daikin’s new water-to-water heat pump system for unparalleled flexibility and better performance

Press release, June 2024

Vienna, June 2024 – With the modular water-to-water heat pump system EW*T-Q-X-A1 featuring Daikin scroll compressors the Japanese manufacturer introduces its latest innovation. This solution offers greater flexibility in configuration, allowing desired capacities for comfort heating, space and process cooling, or heat recovery to be achieved by combining smaller units piped together and controlled as a single system. The modular construction simplifies site selection and installation, streamlines the transportation, handling, and positioning of units, ultimately leading to a plug & play solution with the integration of the Daikin Manifold Kit and Pump Module.

Flexible in application

The new water-sourced EW*T-Q-X-A1 heat pumps offer heating or cooling operation under various conditions. They can produce hot water up to +60°C, while chilled water is supplied in the range from -15°C (with a water-glycol mixture) to +30 °C for the evaporator leaving water temperature. Therefore, the range of applications that can be covered is wide, including comfort heating, space and process cooling, heat recovery.

Comprising three base modules with capacities of 100 kW, 125 kW and 160 kW, the range features Daikin scroll compressors and is available in two sound versions. This includes a reduced sound variant suitable for outdoor installation and noise-sensitive applications as condominiums, hotels and hospitals.

Unit configurations by type include:

  • Water-to-water heat pump with inversion on water side
  • Water-to Water heat pump with inversion on refrigerant side (100 kW only)
  • Condenser-less version

5 benefits of modularity

  • Scalability

Thanks to its modularity, the new EW*T-Q-X-A1 offers scalability, reducing initial investment costs and providing the potential for future expansion with additional modules installed when building occupancy increases. The introduction of a common scroll layout ensures greater compatibility, promoting system longevity and making future system upgrades effortless. The modules can be combined in a side-by-side array or stacked to minimise space requirements, which is especially useful for retrofit applications.

  • Compactness

Each of the different modules is very compact and can be easily transported and positioned within the installation space. As a single module is 120 centimeters wide, 130 cm centimeters depth and 100 centimeters high, it can be handled with a forklift, eliminating the need of a crane.

  • Plug  & play installation

Installation can be further simplified by using the Daikin Manifold Kit, designed to connect modules among each other on the water side,  including the piping. Each Manifold Kit is equipped as standard with manual isolation valves for all connections, allowing each individual module to be excluded from the circuit in case of maintenance without needing to stop the entire system.

Additionally, a dedicated Pump Module can be easily added to the array of modules. The Pump Module is equipped with inverter pumps for full flexibility and includes an expansion tank with a volume of 18 liters.

  • Lower operating costs

Thanks to its modular design, the new EW*T-Q-X-A1 can closely follow the cooling and heating load profile of the building compared to packaged chillers, significantly improving the efficiency. This is particularly relevant as it ensures lower operating costs for the modular design HVAC system under part load conditions, which represent the majority of the operational time.

  • Outstanding energy performance with limited environmental impact

Daikin is committed to continuous design improvement aimed at reducing the environment impact of its cooling, heating and refrigeration solutions. Daikin Bluevolution heat pumps and chillers use R-32 refrigerant which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 675, just one third of R-410A. This, combined with high-energy efficiency, has the potential to substantially reduce a building’s carbon footprint substantially. Additionally, the reduction in required refrigerant charge enabled by the use of R-32 offers further efficiencies while reducing installation and service costs.

The modular water-to-water heat pump system EW*T-Q-X-A1 is available in the CE-region since April 2024. For more information visit the product page.
